Hi there,
Today I am ecstatic to be arts calling playwright/librettist/activist Catherine Filloux! (www.catherinefilloux.com)
For the past three decades, award-winning artist, playwright, and librettist Catherine Filloux has been traveling to conflict areas creating art that addresses human rights and U.S. complicity. As a French and American artist, Catherine brings a unique perspective to her work, which has been called, “compelling drama…a call to action…about the place where horror and grief meet,” by The New York Times.

About Where Elephants Weep:
Sam, a refugee from the Khmer Rouge genocide, leaves America and returns to his homeland, Cambodia. Committed to finding his roots in his native culture, he unexpectedly falls in love with Bopha, a Cambodian pop-star, and the lovers’ lives are changed forever. The music fuses traditional Cambodian music with Western rock and rap. The opera is sung in English and Khmer, with surtitles in both languages.
(Music by Him Sophy; Libretto by Catherine Filloux) recently premiered in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for 7 sold-out performances and became a popular and critical hit. One of the live performances was shot for exclusive national broadcast by the largest Cambodian television station, CTN, and was aired on December 25, 2008 reaching nearly 2 million viewers nation-wide.
